Obituary for Aris George

Aris George, age 91, of Clinton, MO, died on June 27, 2019, at Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation. 

Aristides George was born on May 21, 1928, in Thomatia, Kavalr, Greece, to Constantine and Maria ‘Moutoukia’ George.

Aris was drafted into the Greek Army where he entered the Officers Academy of Corfu Island and graduated as a second Lieutenant in 1949.  In the early 1950’s Aris was sent to Korea with a Greek Battalion to serve with 15 other nations in the war against North Korea and China.  After the Armistice on July 27, 1953, and the replacement of McArthur, Aris chose not to re-enlist and left the army.

In 1954, Aris mailed applications to several American colleges and was offered seven scholarships.  He was advised to go to a small college and chose Southwestern in Winfield, Kansas.  After two years he took a scholarship at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  Aris received his B.S.E. degree from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi and later his Master’s Degree from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. He also attended other colleges during the summer to study mathematics and computers.

Aris taught school in Mississippi, Dodge City, Kansas, and Montana.  He also taught adult education and served as a teacher and chairman of the math department.  Aris last taught geometry in Greenwood, Mississippi, where he retired from teaching at the age of 77.

Aris was the past Master of Hyram Lodge in Forsyth, Montana, Masonic Organization and worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, also in Forsyth. He was the president three times for the Shriner’s Club in Forsyth. He was a life time member of several Masonic Organizations serving the clubs for many years.

Aris loved to hunt and fish.  He married his typing teacher at Carbondale and lost her after 40 years of marriage.  He came to Clinton, MO, in 2007, after losing his wife and two of his 4 children. 

Aris spent the last 12 years caring for and assisting his friend Diane Huffman, who also lost her husband several years ago.

He has nieces and nephews in Canada and England. 

Funeral services for Aris will be Saturday, July 13, 2019, at 10:00 AM at Consalus Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Englewood Cemetery.
