Obituary for Dixie M Batschelett-O'Leary

Dixie Maxine Batschelett O'Leary was born on March 5th, 1932, in a farmhouse one mile North of Clinton, Missouri. She passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2018, at Evergreen Community of Johnson County in Olathe, Kansas.

She was an only child, the daughter of Joseph A. Sartin and Beulah A. (Riead) Sartin. Dixie graduated from Clinton High School in 1950. She went to college at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, where she was a member of Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in music. She married Donald O. Batschelett, her high school sweetheart, on August 17th, 1952, and embarked on a 40-year loving partnership. To this union were born three children, Diana Marie, Donald Oren Jr., and Deborah Lee. Dixie cherished her children and was a proud and supportive parent. Her oldest daughter, Diana, was born in Salzburg, Austria, while Donald was stationed there during his service in the army at the end of the Korean War. After returning to Clinton in 1955, Donald farmed with his father George Batschelett, in Ladue, Missouri, until he and Dixie bought a farm in the Deer Creek Community East of Clinton. They lived there until 1962, and during this time their son, Donald Jr., was born.

While her husband farmed, Dixie worked at Sartin Bookkeeping and Tax Service, her mother’s business in Clinton. Her father owned the Commercial Loan and Credit Co., which Donald was a partner in from 1962 until 1966. In 1966, their daughter Deborah was born and Donald went back to farming, forming a family operation with his father, George, and his brother, Roy Batschelett. Dixie helped with the farming operation while continuing to work in the accounting and tax business for several years until her mother retired and sold the business. In 1982, Dixie returned to college and obtained a Master’s degree in counseling from Central Missouri State University. She worked as a school counselor in various school districts including Ballard, Montrose, and Clinton, until her retirement. In 1992, her beloved husband, Donald, passed away at the age of 59 following a long illness. After her husband's death, Dixie continued to help with Batschelett Farms, Inc. while working as a school counselor.

On January 11th, 1997, Dixie married John O'Leary. She and John spent their retirement years enjoying time with family and friends, traveling, hunting, and fishing. John passed away on their 20th wedding anniversary, January 11th, 2017, at the age of 100. Dixie was a loving Christian wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a good listener and a caring friend. She had a positive and uplifting impact on the lives of many people.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana Christensen and husband James of Overland Park, Kansas; her son, Donald Batschelett Jr. and wife Christina of Clinton, Missouri; her daughter, Deborah Chappell and husband Todd of Gardner, Kansas; her stepdaughter, Cindy O'Leary of Venice, Florida; her stepson, John O'Leary Jr. and wife Cindy of Cave Creek, Arizona. She is also survived by grandchildren Sarah Batschelett, Donald Batschelett III, Stephanie Chappell, Jake Chappell, Crystal Rowlette, Chaning Schussler, Chelsea Schussler, and Jenifer Goth. Her great-granddaughters are Camdyn Fidler and Richlynn Rowlette.
